Bat Rolling

To deliver optimal performance, your new bat needs to be broken in & that can take time. Luckily for you, there’s a way to do it without going through the hassle of hitting the nearly 1,000 balls it takes to get it in the zone. Bat rolling works wonders on composite bats, allowing the ball to get further faster & with more pop.

What Kind Of Difference Can Bat Rolling Make?

Ph.D. Daniel Russel performed a study in 2005 in which the results showed that bat rolling gave the ball up to an extra 35 feet of distance when compared to a new bat that hasn’t been broken in. You can probably consider Dr. Russel’s scientific research to be accurate & others have even claimed results of up to an additional 50 feet.

A major benefit of bat rolling is the size of area that has a good trampoline effect. Breaking it in yourself gives you uneven results & a much smaller sweet spot. Manually hitting balls only conditions the zone where the bat consistently connects with the ball. Our machine applies equal pressure along the entire bat. You’re left with better performance & greater flexibility.

Even used bats can benefit from bat rolling. When you manually break in a bat there’s a sweet spot, but there are also dead spots. A dead spot is any where area that you didn’t make contact while breaking it in & it will lack the necessary trampoline effect. Bat rolling applies pressure evenly, so it gets the entire barrel.

How Do You Roll A Bat?

While the procedure does require special equipment, it’s pretty straightforward. When your bat is delivered to us, we unpack it, clean it and inspect it. Next, we do a compression test with a specialized tester to confirm you bat is within league standards once confirmed we heat your bat to a desired temperature and run it through our machine, which acts as a vice applying pressure along the barrel and that helps to break down the composite materials so that the trampoline effect is as evenly distributed as possible. As the name “bat rolling” implies, this is rolled using specialized rollers. It can take a few hours to complete, but once it’s done, we inspect the bat once more confirm with our compression tester that your bat reaches maximum performance allowing it to meet your leagues standard for play, repack it and send it back to you. The entire process is designed to give you top quality and convenience.
